IITs to double fee, JEE rule change soon

NEW DELHI: In two big decisions on IITs, the HRD ministry has decided to more than double the annual fee at the undergraduate level from Rs 90,000 to Rs 2 lakh per annum and do away with the 40% weightage to Class XII marks in calculating the rank in Joint Entrance Examination (JEE). Candidates, however, must score at least 75% marks in the board exam.
While the fee hike will be implemented from the new academic session this year, changes in JEE will be effective from 2017. As reported by TOI on Thursday, there will be full fee waiver for dalits, tribals, physically challenged and those from families with yearly income of up to Rs 1 lakh. Students whose family income is up to Rs 5 lakh, will pay one-third of the fee.
