Maharashtra Government to settle school fee row in panel

As specified under Maharashtra Educational Institutions (Regulation of Collection of fee Act 2011), the state government has regulated panels in each state division.  Parents and school authorities can now approach these fee panels in case of fee hike of 15 percent.

The order to hike fees by 15 percent in schools was passed by the interim Bombay High Court on December 22, 2015. However, when parents can actually approach the panel regarding the hike is not decided yet.

The five member panel was headed by:

Retired district court judge Krishnaprasad Warrior

Chartered Accountant Santosh Parab

Retired director of Education Mohan Awate

Divisional Chairperson of Maharashtra state education board Duttatray Jagtap

Deputy Director of Education (Mumbai) BB Chavan

Procedure that the panel involves

Inform High Court about the dispute

Submit proposed fee by school authorities for the new academic year to the PTA for approval

Parents and school can approach the revision committee if they want to appeal against the decision of the divisional pane.

Jayant Jain (president of forum for Fairness in Education) said:

"We are getting complaints from parents almost every day about schools indulging in unjustified fee hikes. More than 20 complaints are pending with the education department as the fee act is not being implemented." as reported by Hindustan Times .

Maharashtra Government asks for exemption from medical entrance NEET in 2017.

Maharashtra on Monday, May 2, asked for a delayed exemption from the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET). The state government has asked to hold any such change for 2017 and defer the implementation till 2018.

Why has Maharashtra asked to hold the change?

The reason for the same is not for rebellious concerns but convenience of students appearing for the examination in the coming year. The SC hearing for the same is scheduled for today

Pravin Shinghare, Director of Medical Education and Research says that the petition has been filed in complete interest of the students who have been preparing for the examination for a long time now

According to sources, there are two possibilities of the petition:

The Maharashtra government might be omitted from NEET

If Maharashtra is not omitted, there will be a delay till 2018

The NEET confusion: Proceedings till now

Since NEET came for the first time in 2013, there have been speculations over its continuation.

First, the Supreme Court's verdict cancelled the continuation

However, earlier this year, a petition from a non-profit organisation that stressed on the corrupt practices by medical institutes, which began with their entrance tests replacing the NEET, brought back the Entrance Test 

Another legitimate point raised on the same was that of the sudden announcement of NEET this year that may have left many students preparing for the same a little baffled. A period less than two months is said to be limited time for such preparation.

The first phase of NEET was held on May 1, 2016 for which students expressed concern and worry over difficult questions

MH-CET: SC to hear review petition of Maharashtra government today

The Supreme Court will hear the review petition of Maharashtra government on Tuesday, May 3, to allow the state level MH-CET to be carried out this year for aspiring medical students, on the basis of a petition filed by the state government on Monday. 

NEET Phase-I: The students could not cover the entire syllabus for the examination

The Indian Medical Association also reached out to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday for a temporary implementation of MH-CET for students this year. The students who appeared for NEET phase I exam on Sunday stated they could not cover the entire syllabus for NEET examination as they prepared for MH-CET and there is a difference in the  syllabus pattern for both the examinations.

President of IMA Maharashtra, Dr. Jayesh Lele says:

President of Indian Medical Association (IMA) Maharashtra, Dr. Jayesh Lele told The Indian Express"Implementation of NEET, a single common entrance, has definitely some advantages no doubt, but it should be implemented after making necessary changes in the curriculum and with proper duration for study." 

Lele added that while SC asked MCI and CBSE for its opinion, IMA's stand was not represented.

MH-CET will be conducted on May 5: Vinod Tawde

However, the minister of medical education department Vinod Tawde tweeted that MH-CET will be conducted on May 5 as scheduled
