JNU orders release of fellowships, degrees for all students

JNU has issued orders to release the fellowships of all students who had claimed that their degrees and fellowships had been stopped due to their alleged involvement in the controversial Afzal Guru event.
JNU students’ union president Kanhaiya Kumar, Khalid and Bhattacharya were arrested in a sedition case over the event and are now out on bail.
“Orders have been issued to all concerned departments that the fellowships and degrees be released to the students,” an official said.
Two students — Shweta Raj and Rama Naga — had alleged that the university had refused to release their fellowships claiming that they were still under suspension over the February event.
Another student Chintu Kumari claimed that the administration had refused to give her MPhil degree and marksheet saying it has been blocked due to ongoing enquiry into the incident. Students, on Thursday, held a protest and met university officials.
The university said that the holding back of degrees and fellowships was due to ‘a technical error’.“The inconvenience happened due to a technical error as the order about revoking of their suspension was not yet sent by the chief proctor’s office to various departments. But it has been done now,” an official said.
