The Medical Council of India will respond to state government's plea with regard to National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) on Thursday, May 5.
MCI will respond today: Apex Court
The Court had heard the petition of several states and colleges on Tuesday regarding NEET and asked MCI to respond to the state governments by Thursday.
NEET: Recent development
The apex court on April 28 had rejected the opposition for holding NEET by states including Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Association of Karnataka Medical Colleges, besides minority institutions like CMC, Vellore.
The court's order had implied that the admission to government colleges, deemed universities and private medical colleges would only be held through NEET and those examinations which have already taken place or scheduled should be scrapped.
Date and time of hearing:
The court will hear the plea of affected states and medical colleges on Thursday at 2 pm.
Schedule for NEET examination:
- All India Pre Medical Test (AIPMT): May 1
- Round two of AIPMT: July 24
- Result: August 17
- Completion of Admission process, as set by the apex court: September 30
